Basset Bash & Waddle

Basset Bash & Waddle

The Illinois Basset Bash & Waddle is held the third full weekend in September during the local Harvest Days celebration. All activities are held at the Guardian Angel Basset Rescue Dog Park at 445 W. Waupansie St. Saturday events feature Doggie Games including the Great American Basset Races and Peanut Butter Smooch Pooch. A coronation of the Doggie King & Queen is also held. Food, vendors and entertainment round out the day. All activities are open to the public.

Sunday dogs and owners gather at the Dog Park in anticipation of the Basset Waddle held before the Harvest Days Parade. A costume contest is held with prizes awarded for the best costume and best decorated wagon. Before leaving the park there is a Blessing of the Bassets. All then proceed to Mazon Avenue and begin their waddle. Hundreds of Basset Hounds walk the parade route dressed in their favorite costumes.  Many of the dogs cannot resist visiting the children who line the streets eager to give them a scratch behind their massive ears or a short tummy rub.
